The Fort Lauderdale revision project deals with a large site and strives to engage sea level rise for a community that is at most risk of sea level rise over the next 100 years. The master plan creates a multi district re-envision that saves historic and beach front high value properties. This district shown, creates a canal system of high density housing. This allows the site to increase density by over 400% and embraces the sea level rise. The courtyard housing typology gives dwellers relief from the sun and creates a dynamic set of outdoor and indoor spaces on the edge of the water. The massive housing district connects to a larger network of raised walkways and boardwalks that create a loop through the entire site. This project was part of a large collaboration between a Studio of 12 graduate students. As a team we identified the site needs and constraints while developing many different strategies to embrace sea level rise for and eventually save the at risk community.
